Residents safely evacuated
On Friday, April 5th, a slab of the second floor of a building in Vashi Sector 29, Plot No. 49, Sudama Society, collapsed. Fortunately, the area where the slab fell was unoccupied at the time, resulting in zero casualties. The collapse occurred during repair work being conducted on the second floor, causing the slab to collapse onto the first floor.
Despite a structural inspection conducted just three months prior, which deemed the building to be in satisfactory condition, safety concerns have led to the temporary evacuation of residents. Arrangements have been made for them to reside in Rajasthan Hall until further notice.
City Engineer of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Sanjay Desai, has assured that a thorough re-evaluation of the building will be undertaken before any decisions are made regarding reoccupation.
