Big fat Indian weddings get a quirky makeover

top-news

Once known for royal splendor and strict traditions, Indian weddings are now embracing a delightful dose of chaos. Forget age-old customs — the new mantra is: go big, go bold, and definitely go viral.

Take the haldi ceremony that recently lit up social media feeds. Guests in golden yellow expected the usual turmeric fun, but instead, a towering dinosaur waddled in. The bride emerged from inside the inflatable dinosaur, bringing prehistoric mischief to a tradition steeped in turmeric and blessings. As captured in a clip shared by Instagram user Malkeet Shergill, the scene had everyone in stitches — including the groom, whose initial shock quickly gave way to applause and laughter.

Elsewhere, a groom decided to swap his royal horse for something a little less... regal. His grand entrance? A bouncy ride on a child’s toy horse, much to the delight of his dancing baaraatis. The clip went viral for good reason — it was silly, sweet, and perfectly summed up the playful spirit of modern desi weddings.

In a bold twist on the traditional bidaai, a couple from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, swapped the usual luxurious car ride for something much more unconventional — a JCB bulldozer. Instead of driving off in style, the couple made their exit in a construction vehicle, leaving guests stunned and amused. Guests blinked in disbelief, half-expecting demolition day. But no — it was just the family's way of standing out. “Everyone hires cars and choppers. We own bulldozers — why not use them?” quipped the groom’s uncle, Ramkumar. Bulldozer bidaai: subtle, it was not.

And if that wasn’t dramatic enough, another newlywed pair in December 2024 turned their reception into an action flick. Their grand entry? Riding atop a vehicle tricked out with a replica of the rotating Gatling gun from Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. Smoke, spinning barrels, and a roaring crowd made for a showstopper moment. The video has already clocked over 16 million views — proof that Indian weddings have traded solemnity for spectacle.

From dinosaurs to bulldozers, toy horses to movie props, today’s weddings aren’t just ceremonies — they’re viral blockbusters in the making. And honestly, who’s complaining?
