Belapur Gaon Ram Mandir, the oldest temple in the city, reverberated with devotion and tradition as it celebrated Ram Janam Utsav on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami on April 17th.

The venerable Ram Maruti Janam Utsav Mandal, a 72-year-old trust, orchestrated a magnificent Ram Janam Utsav at the century-old Ram Temple located in Belapur Gaon.

The air resonated with the sacred chants of Lord Sri Rama's name as devotees gathered to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Ram with profound religious fervour. From the early hours of the day, thousands of devotees from distant areas flocked to the temple to offer their prayers to Lord Rama. Adorned with traditional Maharashtrian attire, five married women from the village cradled the golden idol of Lord Ram at the auspicious moment of his birth, while devotees showered flowers in reverence.

The entire village came alive with dance and song, accompanied by the melodious tunes of the local Kirtan group. Amidst the election buzz, villagers and visitors alike immersed themselves in prayer, setting aside worldly distractions.

Despite being adorned with election hoardings and posters, the village holds a rich history dating back to the British era, as narrated by the elderly residents. The majestic peepal tree by the Amruteshwar pond stands as a silent witness to bygone days, providing shade to the temple complex.

Organized by the Ram Maruti Janam Utsav Mandal since 1952, this fortnight-long festival culminates in a grand fair, locally known as "jatra," which commenced 15 days before Ram Navami and continues until Hanuman Jayanti on April 23rd. The fair features attractions such as wrestling competitions, spanning three days, with wrestlers vying for the prestigious 'Belapur-Kesari' title. Chandrakant Patil, President of Ram Maruti Utsav Mandal, expressed that the expenses incurred, nearly amounting to 10 lakhs, are justified by the devotion and efforts of the villagers in making this festival the highlight of the year.
