Bumpy ride for two-wheeler and autorickshaw passengers

Commuters and residents alike have raised concerns over the condition of one of the roads leading out of Juinagar station (W). They have said that the road is in a deteriorated condition and is further being eroded by gravel which gets churned by the movement of traffic.

Commuters taking rickshaws in and out of the station say that the ride is very bumpy and hurts their lower backs. While pedestrians said they tend to get splashed by water accumulating in potholes.

While speaking to Newsband, Yatish Damle said, "I am a 63-year-old senior citizen so I generally take an autorickshaw from the station to Sector 25. When the rickshaw passes by this stretch, this impacts my slip disc and causes me severe pain.”

He added, “Around both sides of the road there are blue metal sheets as there are construction sites behind them. The road is in urgent need of resurfacing.”

Kavya Joshi, a resident of Juinagar said, “Both the footpath and the road leading in and out of the station is in a very deplorable state. Even though it is a stretch walkable in 5 minutes. It is not suitable to walk in during the rains. I have been splashed a few times by dirty puddle water during the evening rush hour.”

Commuters and residents agreed that the need of the hour is for authorities to resurface the road and either concretise it properly or lay asphalt, when there is a break in the rains, so that citizens have a smooth and hassle-free commute to and fro from the station.
