Ambernath Municipal Council’s shelter for the urban homeless has been adjudged among the best in Maharashtra. Besides Ambernath, shelters run by Pimpri Chinchwad, Beed, Akola and Mumbai have also been found to be exemplary.
Established under the central government sponsored Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission, currently 36 homeless beneficiaries are being provided free accommodation, food and all necessary facilities in this shelter.
This initiative has enabled the homeless people of Ambernath to live a safe and dignified life.
Managers and caretakers are working for the care of the beneficiaries, and facilities like health camps, benefits of various government schemes, etc. are also being extended to the homeless.
