Thane: About 51 per cent of drain cleaning work has been completed and the rest will be completed before the monsoon, according to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

The cleaning of large drains by mechanical means has reached more than 90 per cent. The cleaning work of small drains that cannot be cleaned by large machines only remains, solid waste management department said.

TMC has about 278 km of small and large drains in the nine ward areas. Most of the large drains are cleaned mechanically. In densely populated areas where there are small drains and large machines cannot go the work of drain cleaning has commenced.

Meanwhile, additional commissioner Prashant Rode inspected the drain cleaning work. Rode instructed that the silt removed from the drains should be removed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, a ward committee-wise communication system has been created to record complaints regarding drain cleaning.
