The approval and commencement of the concrete road project connecting Karnala Sports and Sainagar in Panvel have raised concerns among local citizens regarding transparency and planning. On September 27, 2023, Pritam Mhatre, the opposition leader of the Panvel Municipal Corporation, along with local municipal councillor Sarika Bhagat, municipal officials, and contractors responsible for the project, conducted an inspection of the ongoing work.
During this visit, it came to light that a substantial amount of taxpayers' money had been previously spent on constructing a large culvert, which was now being demolished to make way for the current project. Mhatre expressed his dissatisfaction, deeming the project "unplanned."
As a consequence of the road widening, the space between two buildings has reduced from 18 meters to 15 meters. Mhatre raised questions about whether the Municipal Corporation had communicated with the affected society or plot owners regarding the demolition of any structures within this three-meter space. Sanjay Katekar, the additional Municipal Commissioner of Panvel Municipal Corporation, was called upon to furnish comprehensive information on the work progress, the project's schedule, and transparency measures to address any potential challenges during the completion of the ongoing project.
Pritam Janardan Mhatre, the Opposition Leader of Panvel Municipal Corporation, stated, "The ongoing road widening project entails the removal of old culverts to make way for new roads, but there is no clear decision regarding the three-meter gap created. Therefore, we demand that the Municipal Corporation make a transparent decision and manage the ongoing work without further disruptions. This issue has raised concerns among the general public, including myself."
