Navi Mumbai: A 24-year-old worker died after being electrocuted at a manufacturing unit in the Turbhe MIDC area, exposing serious lapses in industrial safety. Following the incident, Turbhe Police have registered a case against the factory owner, manager, and other staff members for negligence and failure to provide mandatory safety equipment.

The deceased has been identified as Ramzan Mustakin (24), a native of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on March 2, 2026, at the factory Sonak Surface Technologies, where Mustakin was working.

According to police, the accident took place around 2:15 PM while he was operating a machine. Mustakin reportedly received a powerful electric shock during the process. The intensity of the current was so severe that he died on the spot.

Preliminary investigations and a complaint filed by the victim’s relatives revealed major safety violations at the unit. Authorities found that the company had failed to provide workers with mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition, electrical boards and the ‘hand buffing’ machine were poorly maintained. Faulty wiring allegedly caused a leakage of current into the machine frame, leading to the fatal accident.

Based on the complaint, Turbhe Police have booked the factory owner Anand Lalit Shah, manager Anuj Shah, and other responsible staff members under Sections 106(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence.

“The management’s failure to ensure a safe working environment directly resulted in this young man’s death,” a police official said. Further investigation is ongoing.
