Severe shortage felt across Panvel City, including Karanjade, Kalamboli, and New Panvel
Residents of Panvel City, including Karanjade, Kalamboli, and New Panvel of CIDCO Colony continue to grapple with a severe water shortage as maintenance issues plague the water distribution infrastructure managed by Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP).
Four days ago, water supply to CIDCO Colony was halted for repair work following a sudden burst water pipe of MJP. Despite completion of the repair work, water supply has not been restored, exacerbating the woes of residents. Moreover, reports indicate that dilapidated water pipes at Sector 15, New Panvel are prone to frequent bursts, resulting in the wastage of thousands of litres of drinking water daily.
Communities across Panvel City, including Karanjade, Kalamboli, and New Panvel, rely on MJP for water supply. However, apart from infrastructure issues, rampant water theft adds to the crisis, point out residents.
MJP officials and employees are grappling with the repercussions of these challenges, as burst pipes continue to emerge at new locations regularly. The sluggish pace of replacing water channels exacerbates the situation, particularly impacting residents of CIDCO Colony.
While efforts are underway to address the burgeoning slum population's water needs, taxpayers in CIDCO Colony are bearing the brunt of the ongoing water crisis. Despite assurances from municipal authorities, the persistence of water shortages highlights the urgent need for comprehensive infrastructure reforms and stringent measures to curb water theft.
