Vashi Post Office operations halted due to server shutdown

Aadhaar services also affected

Vashi : The main post office in Vashi faced a complete shutdown of services on Wednesday morning due to a server outage. The disruption affected a range of services including speed post, registry, money transfer, money orders, savings banking, and fixed deposits. Postal orders were also unavailable, leading to significant inconvenience for thousands of citizens who were turned away.

The server shutdown has had a widespread impact, as the post office's operations are fully computerized and reliant on network connectivity. The central government has modernized postal services to be entirely server-based, but this reliance on technology means that a server issue can halt all operations.

“Since the server in the main post office Vashi, went down since morning, all the service windows had to be closed. We currently have no information on when the server will be restored,” said Anuradha Rao, Supervisor at Vashi Post Office. “The shutdown has left many citizens unable to perform their essential tasks.”

In addition to postal services, the server outage also impacted the Aadhaar center located within the Vashi post office. The center, which handles new Aadhaar card registrations, name corrections, address changes, and Aadhaar linking, had to suspend operations as the server remained down for over an hour and a half. Citizens who had queued up for these services were ultimately forced to leave without completing their tasks.
