The swimming pool located in Sector 3, Ghansoli Central Park, which has remained unused since its construction, is now set to undergo significant improvements. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has approved an additional expenditure of Rs. 60 lakhs for the refurbishment of this long-neglected facility.

Spanning a vast area of 39,135 sq. m., the Central Park was meticulously developed at a cost of Rs.17.50 lakhs by NMMC. The park was conceptualised with a focus on the five elements of nature, offering visitors a harmonious blend of nature and recreation. Notable features of the park include a picturesque rink, a swimming pool, and a mini football turf, all complemented by training facilities provided by the sports department. Construction of this sprawling park commenced in 2014.

However, in March 2020, the then Mayor Jaywant Sutar rushed to inaugurate the park to comply with the municipal election code of conduct, even before its completion. Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, all public parks in the city were temporarily closed. Although other parks were reopened to the public on October 22, 2021, following the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, the swimming pool at Central Park remained closed due to safety concerns and the need for renovations.

The deterioration of the swimming pool in Central Park became evident as trees began to encroach upon it. Consequently, in May 2023, concerned citizens, led by Dinesh Mhatre, the Navi Mumbai City Chief of Agri Sena, demanded immediate repairs to the pool so that it could once again be accessible to the public.

Madan Vakchaure, Executive Engineer of Ghansoli ward, explained that the decision to allocate an additional Rs. 60 lakh for the swimming pool's refurbishment was made in response to both safety concerns and the desire to make the facility fully operational. The upcoming improvements will include modern equipment and necessary repairs to ensure the pool's safety and usability.
