Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to begin the concreting of the Gaimukh to Dahisar Metro and Gaimukh Ghat Road projects simultaneously. The ministers’ directive aims to ensure the work is completed together, reducing the need for repeated traffic stoppages and minimizing inconvenience to citizens.
The minister emphasized that although citizens may face temporary disruptions during the construction phase, the long-term benefits will include better facilities and reduced traffic congestion.
In addition to the metro and road work, Sarnaik instructed the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to fast-track its coordination and support for internal road development works in the Ghodbunder area.
The goal is to accelerate progress on these projects, which will improve traffic flow and urban infrastructure.
A meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Transport Minister Sarnaik to review various development projects funded by the government in the TMC jurisdiction area. These included the Nagla Bandar Creek Development Project, the traffic situation on Ghodbunder Road, and more.
The meeting was held at the Arvind Pendse Auditorium at the Municipal Corporation headquarters and was attended by key officials, including Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, MMRDA Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, Sarnaik also provided directions regarding the Ghodbunder Road service road's connection to the main road. He instructed TMC to complete the replanting of affected trees before the monsoon season.
The minister pointed out that once alternative roads are connected in the Ghodbunder area, traffic on the main Ghodbunder Road could be reduced by at least 20%. Sarnaik urged MMRDA to expedite the work on the five packages for this purpose and called on the Thane Municipal Corporation's Urban Development Department to provide immediate coordination and support.
Additionally, Sarnaik discussed two major projects, the Nagla Port Coastal Development and Mangrove Park. He stressed the importance of rehabilitating affected individuals in these projects as soon as possible and ensuring adequate police security to prevent any disruptions.
In the meeting, Sarnaik also reviewed the status of development works in the Ovala-Majiwada area and instructed the Thane Municipal Corporation to make a final decision on the rehabilitation of displaced people in Samatanagar by next week.
Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao provided an update on efforts to address traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road, highlighting the need to accelerate the work on Gaimukh Ghat Road to complete it before the monsoon.
Rao also mentioned that Thane would receive additional water from the Surya project, and systems would be in place to monitor road conditions and complete necessary repairs. The meeting concluded with a review of Metro work by Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal.
