Seizes motor pumps and disrupts tap connections to recover water bills

Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation’s water supply department has intensified its efforts to recover overdue water bill payments. In a recent operation conducted in the ShilDiwa area, six motor pumps were seized and eleven tap connections were disconnected as part of the crackdown on water bill arrears.

The Municipal Corporation has urged residents to cooperate by settling their outstanding bills to avoid further enforcement actions. Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi has instructed that a weekly bill collection target be established, with ongoing measures including the disconnection of tap connections, seizure of motor pumps, and sealing of meter rooms across all wards.

Suburban Engineer (Water Supply) Vinod Pawar has warned that reactivation of broken tap connections without clearing the outstanding dues will result in criminal charges.

Meanwhile, to provide financial relief to residents, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has approved a 100 percent discount on administrative fees for overdue water bills. This offer is available to those who settle their arrears along with the current year's charges between September 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this scheme to clear their outstanding bills and benefit from the full discount on administrative fees. The official informed that the concession applies only to domestic water bill holders who have not paid their water supply charges prior to this policy change. The discount does not extend to business accounts.
