TMC marks Vasundhara Day with environmental initiatives

In commemoration of Vasundhara Day, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) organised a series of impactful activities on Monday, April 22, aimed at fostering environmental awareness and action.

The day commenced with a dedicated effort towards the cleanliness of Railadevi Lake area, spearheaded by the volunteers of Prakalamp Bhagini Vikas Sangh, in collaboration with students from Bhim Nagar's study class, women garbage collectors, and municipal employees. Together, they diligently cleared 25 kg of plastic waste from the vicinity, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship. At the same time as, a painting competition was organized, engaging students and fostering creativity while instilling a deeper appreciation for nature.

Meanwhile, the Thane Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Environment Vigilance Board, launched an online open environment school initiative to educate citizens about the imperative need for environmental conservation. Dr. Sanjay Joshi, a prominent figure in the environmental movement, delivered an enlightening lecture on April 22, elucidating the origins and significance of Vasundhara Day. With this year's theme centred around "Planet Vs. Plastic," Dr. Joshi highlighted the pervasive impact of plastic pollution on the environment, advocating for sustainable solutions and individual action.

The initiative, comprising a series of informative sessions, aimed to empower citizens with knowledge and actionable insights. Manisha Pradhan, Chief Environment Officer of the Municipal Corporation, encouraged widespread participation, emphasizing the importance of collective engagement in safeguarding our planet's future.

Speaking during the occasion, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao stressed on the Corporation's commitment to mitigating the effects of the impending heat wave. Echoing this sentiment, Manisha Pradhan highlighted the directive to prioritize public awareness initiatives on heatwave preparedness, tree plantation drives, water conservation measures, and the responsible utilization of resources.
