Thane traffic police apprehend 173 drunk drivers during Holi-Dhulvad festivities

In a resolute crackdown on traffic violations during the festive period of Holi-Dhulvad, the Thane traffic branch has ensnared a staggering 2,743 motorists across five circles within the Commissionerate. Among them, a startling 173 individuals were caught red-handed driving under the influence of alcohol.

Deploying a force comprising 700 police officers and personnel from the Thane Transport Department, authorities meticulously executed their strategy to curb reckless driving behaviors. With a keen focus on drivers suspected of operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. The vigilant officers were stationed across key locations within the jurisdiction.

The intensive operation saw a total of 700 personnel, including 63 police officers and 650 constables, positioned strategically to intercept offenders. Among those apprehended were 173 motorists found driving under the influence, a grave violation posing a significant risk to road safety.

Additionally, the enforcement effort targeted other common infractions, including overloading two-wheelers, riding without helmets, and unlawful passenger arrangements in autorickshaws. A total of 663 individuals were held accountable for exceeding passenger limits on bikes, while penalties were imposed on 1,542 riders for flouting helmet regulations. Moreover, 365 individuals were reprimanded for occupying the driver's seat in passenger rickshaws, in violation of established norms.
