Thane News: Thane to Badlapur gets over 6,000 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras

Thane: The Maharashtra state government has approved the installation of over 6,000 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras across the Thane Commissionerate area, which includes the cities of Thane, Kalwa, Mumbra, Diva, Kopar, Dombivli, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur, and Bhiwandi. The project is estimated to cost Rs 575 crore.
The project is designed to enhance security and assist police in monitoring criminal activities, accidents, and other emergencies. The CCTV cameras will be equipped with fixed and circular surveillance systems, along with Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras that can capture vehicle number plates clearly, even in low light or from a distance. In addition, Red Light Violation Detection cameras will be installed at major intersections to monitor vehicle speeds. All of these cameras will be connected to the Thane Police control room for real-time surveillance.
Thane Police Commissioner has been appointed as the controlling officer for the project, which will cover various areas. The Thane to Diva region will have 3,163 cameras, Bhiwandi will receive 1,347 cameras, and the stretch from Ulhasnagar to Badlapur will be covered by 1,541 cameras. In total, 6,051 cameras will be installed to enhance surveillance and improve security across these areas.
The project is expected to significantly improve the region's security infrastructure and provide authorities with the tools to respond quickly and efficiently to incidents.
