Thane: Thane is set to witness major traffic disruptions as Ghodbunder Road closes to heavy vehicles for four days, from April 26 to 30, due to urgent repairs at Gaimukh Ghat by the Public Works Department. A 100-hour mega block has been announced, with only emergency service vehicles exempted.
The Thane Traffic Division has issued diversions that will affect both heavy and light vehicles, heightening congestion across Ghodbunder Road, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, and surrounding areas. Cars and jeeps from Kajupada towards Thane will be diverted near the Indian petrol pump, driving against the usual flow before rejoining near the Nirantar Centre.
Vehicles from Palghar-Virar are barred from entering Varasave via Shirsat Phata and must take the Parol-Akoli (Ganeshpuri)-Ambadi route. Similarly, traffic from Palghar-Vasai must divert through Chinchoti, Kaman, Kharbao, and Anjur Phata. Entry from the Western Express Highway towards Ghodbunder Road will remain closed, forcing commuters towards the Gujarat Highway instead.
Heavy vehicles from Mumbai, Thane, Mumbra, and Kalwa must reroute via Nashik Road and Kharegaon, while those from Nashik and Gujarat must avoid Mankoli Naka and Chinchoti Naka respectively. Authorities warn of severe congestion citywide and urge commuters to plan their journeys carefully.
