Thane News: Residents evacuated after portion of dilapidated building collapses

Thane: As many as 17 families were evacuated and moved to a safer location after a portion of a dilapidated three-storeyed building collapsed in the wee hours of May 27 in Padwal Nagar of Wagle Estate.

The portion of Nandadeep building, which is more than 50 years old and classified under the C2B category of dangerous buildings by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), collapsed at around 2.25 am in the wee hours of Tuesday, TMC officials said.

A part of the third-floor roof and the stairway of the third floor collapsed, however, no one was injured, Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell, said.

Following the mishap all necessary teams rushed to the spot, Tadvi said, adding the structure was evacuated as a precautionary measure. Residents of the two adjacent buildings have also been asked to temporarily vacate and find alternative accommodation, he added.
