Thane district intensifies anti-narcotics measures ahead of elections

As the district gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Thane's authorities have escalated efforts to combat the menace of narcotics trafficking. Collector Ashok Shingare has issued directives aimed at curbing the storage, sale, and production of narcotics within the district, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance from all concerned agencies.

In a significant move to bolster anti-narcotics operations, Collector Ashok Shingare presided over a meeting of the District Level Anti-Narcotics Coordination Committee and District Level Anti-Narcotics Executive Committee at the Collectorate office. The meeting convened key stakeholders, including Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Dipali Dhate, Assistant Police Commissioner from Thane City Police Commissionerate Indrajit Karle, Assistant Police Commissioner from Mira Bhayander Police Commissionerate Madan Ballal, and other officials from various law enforcement agencies.

Addressing the gathering, Collector Ashok Shingare stressed the importance of proactive measures to prevent the smuggling of drugs from other states or abroad into Thane district during the election period. He instructed agencies to devise comprehensive plans for pre-emptive actions and tighten surveillance to thwart any such illicit activities. Additionally, stringent action was urged against establishments involved in the illegal sale of substances like Korex and Button, with a particular focus on enforcing the Anti-Narcotics Act.

The meeting also provided a platform to review the anti-narcotics efforts undertaken by the authorities in the preceding years. Representatives from the Thane City Police Commissionerate, Mira Bhayander Police Commissionerate, and Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate shared insights into the actions taken by their respective anti-narcotics units in 2023 and 2024.
