Tallest ‘Family Gudi’ to be raised at Sonkhar–Palm Beach

Navi Mumbai: In a unique celebration of the Hindu New Year, residents of the Sonkhar–Palm Beach area in Sanpada will erect Navi Mumbai’s tallest ‘Joint Family Concept Gudi’ on the occasion of Gudi Padwa. The grand celebration will take place at Gunina Ground in Sector 16, bringing together residents to promote the values of unity and the traditional joint family system.
The ceremonial Gudi will be erected at the auspicious hands of Navi Mumbai Deputy Mayor Dashrath Bhagat, adding significance to the festive occasion.
The event is being organised under the guidance of Corporator Nishant Bhagat and Corporator Priti Sandeep Bhagat, through the Nakhwa Sitaram Bhagat Cultural Festival Committee. The celebration is being held with special support from the Sonkhar (Palm Beach) Senior Citizens Service Committee, Sonkhar Sports and Cultural Association, and Sonkhar Karaoke Kalamanch.
The festivities will begin at 7:00 AM at Gunina Ground, where the towering Gudi symbolising the concept of a joint family will be the central attraction. The event will also feature vibrant cultural performances, including traditional dhol-tasha and lezim performances, demonstrations of Shivkalin martial arts, grand rangoli reflecting Indian culture, and residents participating in traditional attire, creating a festive and cultural atmosphere.
To encourage participation in traditional culture, women wearing the traditional Nauvari saree will be honoured with cash prizes, gifts, and gift vouchers. Similarly, men and children dressed as saints and great historical personalities will also receive cash rewards, gifts, and vouchers.
