Shravan month begins in Maharashtra with devotees observing Shravan Somvar Vrat

Navi Mumbai: The Shravan month according to the Maharashtrian calendar, or Amanta calendar, began on Monday, August 5, with devotees observing Shravan Somvar vrat. Long queues of devotees were seen at every Shiv temple, standing with puja thalis. They prayed to Lord Shiva by pouring milk, honey, curd, ghee, sweets, sandal powder, bilwa patra, and flowers onto the lingam. Both men and women were fasting for the entire day to observe Shravan Somvar vrat. Citizens are gearing up to observe the Shravan month with great devotion and religious fervor.

Shravan, or Sawan, is the holiest month of the year and carries significant importance for devotees of Lord Shiva. This year, according to Drik Panchang, the Shravan month for Maharashtra and other southern regions started on Monday, August 5. The auspicious Somvar vrat will be observed for the next four Mondays: August 12, August 19, August 26, and September 2.

In Maharashtra, the Shravan month is full of religious festivals such as Jhulan Yatra of Lord Krishna and Radha, Janmashtami, Gokulashtami or Dahi Handi, Raksha Bandhan, and Narali Purnima.
