In a significant step towards advocating for fair wages and job security, the Shramik Sena Sanghatana has announced a high-profile meeting scheduled for 17 February 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Mantralaya. This gathering aims to address pressing issues faced by thousands of municipal and transport workers in Maharashtra.
The meeting will be presided over by Sanjeev Naik, former MP and President of the Shramik Sena, and will feature the participation of Maharashtra Labour Minister Akash Fundkar, with guidance from Forest Minister Ganesh Naik.
Central to the agenda is the demand for justice for long-serving employees of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and its transport services, encompassing fixed-salary workers, non-COVID staff, teachers, transport personnel, drivers, and contract-based employees.
A primary focus of the Shramik Sena Sanghatana is the urgent implementation of the principle of ‘Equal Work, Equal Pay’. This initiative seeks to ensure that employees across various categories receive equitable and consistent remuneration, a contentious issue that has long plagued the workforce in Maharashtra.
Labour leaders assert that the outcomes of this meeting could have far-reaching implications, not only for NMMC employees but also for workers throughout the state. The decisions made are anticipated to lay the groundwork for more equitable labour policies and enhanced working conditions.
The Shramik Sena Sanghatana has expressed optimism that this meeting could serve as a turning point in the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights. Representatives from diverse sectors are expected to attend, underscoring the urgent need for government intervention to safeguard labour rights and ensure financial stability for all employees.
Key figures from the Shramik Sena Sanghatana, including General Secretary Charan Jadhav and Ram Chavan, General Secretary of the NMMC Unit, are poised to advocate for the rights of workers, reinforcing the collective call for justice and fair treatment in the workplace.
