Rs. 20 crores allotted

Navi Mumbai: The Agricultural Produce Market Committee’s (APMC) Grain Market in Vashi, a crucial hub for grain supply in the Mumbai suburbs, is set for significant infrastructure improvements. The internal roads, which have been in poor condition, are slated to be asphalted and concretized to enhance accessibility and safety.

The grain market, spread over 16.29 hectares and housing 412 grain holders, has faced challenges due to the poor state of its internal roads. The presence of potholes and loose gravels has made navigation difficult for both heavy and light vehicles operating within the market premises.

In response to these issues, APMC administration has announced a comprehensive plan to upgrade the market infrastructure. Grain Market Director Nilesh Vira revealed that a provision of Rs. 20 crores has been allocated for these improvements.

The planned upgrades include:

Asphalting and Concretizing: The internal roads within the market, including those leading to the additional shop-cum-godown complex, will be asphalted. Concretization will be carried out at the entrance and exit gates of various blocks, as well as the footpaths.

Sewer Repairs: Old sewers beneath the ups and downs of various blocks will be repaired and replaced with new footpaths.

Gate Replacements: The old collapsible gates on the east-west sides of public passages will be removed, and new sliding gates will be installed.

Staircase and Footpath Repairs: The staircase areas of M-M and T blocks will be repaired, and cement concrete will be laid in spaces between medians and footpaths in various blocks.
