Renowned Microprocessor Engineer Avtar Saini dies in a road accident on Palm Beach Road

Avtar Saini (68), a distinguished figure in the realm of microprocessor design and development, tragically lost his life in a collision with a taxi while cycling along Palm Beach Road in Seawoods on Wednesday morning.
Saini, a resident of the USA was currently residing in Chembur. He was an active member of the Mumbai Cycling Enthusiasts group and embarked on a routine cycling trip from Chembur to Panvel alongside 7 to 8 fellow cyclists. However, the trip took a devastating turn when a speeding taxi struck Saini's bicycle near Seawoods around 5:30 am.
Despite immediate medical attention from his companions, Saini sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The taxi driver, attempting to flee the scene, was apprehended by vigilant motorists near Kille Junction and handed over to the police.
Avtar Saini's contributions to the field of microprocessor technology were substantial, marked by numerous patents and a distinguished tenure as the former director of Intel's South Asia division. His passion for cycling paralleled his professional pursuits, as he regularly participated in group rides, seeking camaraderie and exercise on Mumbai's roads.
The Navi Mumbai police have initiated an investigation into the incident, with charges filed against the taxi driver involved in the accident.
