Kalyan: The growing issue of stray dogs in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) area has sparked concern among residents, particularly in Rambagh, Kalyan West. The matter was strongly highlighted during the general body meeting held on March 16, drawing significant attention from civic authorities.
Corporator Swapnali Kene from Ward No. 6, representing the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), raised the issue prominently in her very first general assembly meeting. She pointed out that nearly 125 to 150 stray dogs roam freely in the Rambagh area, creating a serious safety concern for residents. "The Municipal Corporation should implement immediate measures to control the situation and ensure public safety. Citizens are suffering, and timely intervention is necessary to prevent further incidents,” Kene said.
According to reports, hundreds of citizens, including children and senior citizens, have fallen victim to dog bites. The situation is particularly alarming as the area houses four schools and two colleges, leading to heavy movement of students throughout the day. This has heightened fears among parents and local residents.
Kene also highlighted that certain individuals feeding raw meat to stray dogs may be contributing to increased aggression among them. As a result, incidents of attacks and bites have reportedly risen.
