Prices of Hapus mango dip with rise in arrivals

top-news

The arrival of a bountiful supply of Hapus mangoes in the APMC market in Vashi has led to a significant drop in prices, making this delicious fruit accessible to all.

With a staggering 40,000 boxes of Hapus and an additional 10,000 boxes of mangoes from Karnataka flooding the market, consumers are spoilt for choice. This influx of mangoes comes as a relief after early Hapus production suffered setbacks due to unfavourable weather conditions during flowering and unseasonal rains, resulting in reduced yields and higher market prices.

However, this year's crop has proven to be abundant in regions like Devgad, Ratnagiri, and Raigad, leading to an early onset of arrivals in the market since January. Over the past week, the influx of mangoes has further intensified, said a trader from APMC fruit market.

As the demand for mangoes surges post-Holi, particularly in North India, market experts anticipate a continued rise in arrivals, possibly reaching up to 50,000 boxes and even up to 1 lakh in the coming weeks. Despite this anticipated increase in supply, prices have already witnessed a significant reduction, dropping by Rs. 500 per box.

Previously priced between Rs. 2,000 to 6,000 per box, Hapus mangoes are now available at a more accessible range of Rs. 1,500 to 4,000 per box, making them a delightful treat for all. Additionally, Karnataka mangoes are also being offered at competitive rates, ranging from Rs. 100 to 200 per kilogram.

Sanjay Pansare, the Director of APMC fruit market, has informed that prices are expected to continue decreasing as the season progresses and the influx of mangoes further increases.
