Becomes second civic body after BMC to do so

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a significant step towards promoting ease of doing property transactions by implementing a self-registration system for taxpayers after property purchases. Following the example set by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), PMC now allows citizens to register for property tax with a reference number, namely the Property Identification (UPIC ID NUMBER), obtained during property transactions.

This new process, discussed and proposed in a meeting held on November 21, 2023, involves citizens noting their UPIC ID NUMBER during property registration with the assistance of the Deputy Director of Panvel. Registration will then be automatically carried out through this reference number, offering taxpayers the flexibility to register using their preferred methods.

Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh highlighted the transparency and efficiency of this system, emphasizing that taxpayers need to attach a copy of the filled form and proof of property tax payment for their records. By including the UPIC ID NUMBER in the registration documents, the taxpayer's name will be instantly added to the municipal property tax system, eliminating the need for a separate application.

This move aligns with the Business Facilitation Act, aiming to provide various civic services through the municipal corporation to facilitate business processes. The benefits of the self-registration method include time savings, reduction in human errors, accurate inclusion of taxpayer names in property records, no need for citizens to visit the municipal corporation for property detail changes, elimination of manual intervention in documents, and transparent business operations through a quick and citizen-friendly process.

Before taking advantage of this new facility, property owners are advised to ensure that their property tax is fully paid. The PMC has received an excellent response from property taxpayers, with a total deposit of Rs. 213 crores in the municipal corporations's treasury from April to November 21 of the current financial year. Online property tax filers are eligible for a 2% discount, and the PMC TAX APP has been developed for convenient online filing. Citizens can also visit www.panvelmc.org for property tax filing.

Benefits of Self-Registration Method includes:

1. Time-saving during taxpayer registration, leading to paperless work.

2. Reduction in human errors.

3. Accurate inclusion of the taxpayer's name in property records.

4. No need for citizens to visit the municipality for changing property details.

5. Eliminates the need for manual intervention in documents.

6. Transparent business operations through a quick and citizen-friendly method.
