On Wednesday, June 5th, every Kali temple in the city saw an enormous gathering of devotees offering fruits to Goddess Kali, seeking blessings for their deeds and fortunes. The Bengali community was deeply immersed in devotion, worshipping Goddess Kali during Jyastha Amavasya to commemorate Phalaharini Kali Puja, one of the most sacred times to honor the Goddess.

Devotees presented various seasonal fruits to Devi, with the belief that offering fruits or sacrificing their karmas would earn them her benevolence and good fortune. The Kali temple at the Navi Mumbai Bengali Association premises in Sector 6, Vashi, witnessed hundreds of devotees offering as many fruits as possible to Kali Maa, seeking blessings for good fortune, well-being, and prosperity for their families. They observed a fast throughout the day, breaking it only after the Pushpanjali ceremony held around 10 PM.

During the Havan, priest Nirupam Mukherjee offered a fruit in the name of Devi Kali Maa on behalf of each devotee, seeking the Goddess's blessings for peace and tranquility on earth.

Phalaharini Kali Puja holds significant importance among the Bengali community. According to ancient traditions, the puja is closely associated with Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa. On this day, Shri Ramakrishna offered all the goodness of his spiritual practices at the feet of his consort, Shri Sarada Devi. In 1280, Shri Ramakrishna performed the ‘Shoroshi Puja’ before his wife, Shrimati Sarada Devi, honouring her as Devi Kali. This act of worship marked a unique recognition of a wife, with no man having ever given such importance to his spouse by sacrificing his spiritual practices in her honour.
