Panvelkar run to spread message on cleanliness

In a remarkable display of community spirit, approximately three thousand citizens participated in a five-kilometer 'Swachhata Run' organized by the Panvel Municipal Corporation at Wadala Lake to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. This event was held under the guidance of Commissioner Mangesh Chitale as part of the ongoing 'Swachhta Hi Seva' campaign.
The run saw participation from various dignitaries, including MLA Shri. Prashant Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Rupali Mane, Head of Department Anil Kokre, Chief Health Inspector Shailesh Gaikwad, and other municipal officials. The event marked the conclusion of a 15-day cleanliness drive initiated by the Panvel Municipal Corporation in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
During the event, participants took a pledge to uphold cleanliness in their surroundings. Speaking to the gathering, MLA Prashant Thakur emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining a clean environment. "If citizens take a step forward for cleanliness and decide not to litter and to encourage others not to do so, our city will become clean and beautiful," he stated.
Representatives from various colleges and social organizations that participated in the run were honoured with mementos, while all participants, including students, received medals and certificates for their involvement.
Participating colleges and social institutions included CKT College of Arts Commerce and Science, Ramsheth Thakur College of Commerce and Science, Ramsheth Thakur Public School, Ramsheth, Thakur English Medium School, Pillai College of Arts Commerce and Science, Pillai College of Engineering, KLE College, Ramsheth Thakur Secondary and Higher Secondary School, CKT Vidyalaya New Panvel, CKT Junior College New Panvel, Tilak Junior College, Nerul
Voluntary organizations such as Rotary Club of Panvel Mahanagar, Runthon Cycling Club, Nisarga Mitra Sanstha participated in the program.
In addition to the run, a cleanliness drive was conducted in the Wadala Lake area, where MLA Prashant Thakur, Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate, and various students actively participated in cleaning the roads around the lake.
