Kharghar: In the wake of increasing mosquito menace and consequent rise in vector-borne diseases in Kharghar, Kharghar Taloja Colonies Welfare association (KTCWA) has urged Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take immediate action to control mosquito breeding in the node especially sectors 30 to 36.
Mangesh Ranawade, president, KTCWA, along with others from the node met Vaibhav Vidhate, deputy commissioner, PMC, on May 28 and submitted a letter to this regard. KTCWA also submitted laboratory reports to substantiate their claims of increase in vector-borne diseases.
“Based on information gathered from various doctors and pathology labs, it has come to light that cases of malaria and dengue are steadily increasing in the PMC area,” Ranawade said.
The association has also appointed experts to test for larvae breeding in the accumulated water in the sectors.
Meanwhile, PMC personnel have begun fumigation from May 30 at the outer sides of the housing complexes and at various junctions of the pavements.
“Usually, fumigation is done in open areas, but this time, acting on our grievances, the fogging is carried out in the enclosed dark areas like beneath the pavement, inside the drain etc to get maximum benefit,” shared Jyoti Nadkarni, a KTCWA member.
KTCWA also urged Kharghar residents and housing societies to keep their surroundings clean and take action to stop the breeding of mosquitoes. “We have to take precautions at our own level too and not dump trash in our vicinity, take precaution on cleanliness, prevent accumulation of water, etc,” Nadkarni added.
