Aimed at fostering environmental sustainability and enhancing societal well-being, the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) unveiled a budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 with no increase in tax rates. The budget, totalling Rs. 2493.71 crore with a surplus balance of Rs. 25 lakh, signifies a commitment to prudent fiscal management while addressing the diverse needs of the community.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Indurani Jakhar presented the budget, emphasizing its focus on improving the happiness index across all segments of society, including the disabled, students, women, and senior citizens. Notably, the budget allocates Rs. 1847.17 crores for the ongoing fiscal year 2023-24, underlining a strategic approach towards financial planning and allocation.
One of the key highlights of the budget is its comprehensive provisions for the empowerment and inclusion of marginalized groups. Under the Divyang Kalyan Yojana, the budget earmarks Rs. 12 crores for monthly pensions and various support activities for persons with disabilities. Additionally, initiatives such as the establishment of a Disability Education Training and Service Facility Centre and a hostel for working women underscore the municipality's commitment to fostering inclusivity and accessibility.
Furthermore, the budget prioritizes education and skill development, with provisions for scholarships and enhanced infrastructure in municipal schools. Initiatives such as the Savitribai Phule Scholarship Scheme aim to support students in pursuing higher education and competitive examinations, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
In line with its environmental objectives, the Municipal Corporation plans to transition wood-fired graveyards to electric crematoriums, contributing to reduced air pollution and conservation of green spaces. Additionally, innovative projects such as the development of an "Autism Village" within a landscaped park underscore the municipality's efforts to create inclusive recreational spaces.
The budget also allocates funds for infrastructure development, including the beautification of lakes, construction of flyovers, and enhancement of public sanitation and solid waste management systems. Investments in renewable energy, such as solar power generation projects, further demonstrate the municipality's commitment to sustainability and resilience.
Overall, the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation's budget for 2024-25 reflects a holistic approach to governance, balancing fiscal responsibility with social welfare and environmental stewardship. By prioritizing the needs of diverse communities and investing in sustainable development, the municipality sets a commendable precedent for inclusive and resilient urban planning.
