The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is all set to add 71 new teaching staff members. NMMC comprises 23 secondary schools, currently supported by 195 dedicated teachers. Additionally, there are 56 primary schools with a faculty of 450 teachers, both on permanent and contract bases for approximately 55,000 students across the municipal school.
However, despite their efforts, there persists a shortfall of 99 teachers in the primary section alone, prompting the education department to petition the government for assistance.
Responding to this call, the government initiated the recruitment process for education workers in 2022, employing an online platform for applications. Candidates with qualifications such as D.Ed for Marathi, Hindi, Urdu mediums, and T.E.T. were encouraged to apply. Following a rigorous screening process, 71 promising candidates have been identified and forwarded to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Education Department for further evaluation.
With the completion of document verification procedures, the stage is set for the announcement of the final selection list comprising eligible candidates. Municipal sources have affirmed that successful candidates will receive appointment letters promptly thereafter.
“In terms of remuneration, these newly appointed teachers will receive a salary of Rs. 16,000, with 50 percent of the expenses being shared between the government and the municipal corporation”, said an official.
