Belapur: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will organise a special e-waste collection drive at its headquarters on 22 October 2026, as part of Special Campaign 6.0, aimed at ensuring the scientific disposal of electronic waste and adhering to environmental regulations.
The initiative follows guidelines issued by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India. Additional Municipal Commissioner Sunil Pawar has issued a directive to all civic departments, offices, and establishments to identify and collect unused, damaged, and obsolete electrical and electronic equipment.
The collection drive will encompass computers, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mouse, UPS units, batteries, telephone handsets, and networking equipment. Departments have been instructed to compile itemised inventories specifying equipment names, quantities, asset numbers, operational conditions, and the concerned department.
The civic administration clarified that equipment requiring formal write-offs must be processed separately under applicable regulations, emphasising that no government property may be transferred for disposal without prior approval from the competent authority.
All collected e-waste will be deposited at a designated facility managed by the Solid Waste Management Department on 22 October. Additionally, NMMC officers and staff may voluntarily contribute personal electronic waste from their households, including televisions, air conditioners, mobile phones, refrigerators, washing machines, and other household appliances.
The campaign seeks to promote environmentally responsible disposal practices whilst minimising the harmful ecological impacts of electronic waste across the municipality.
