Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has successfully completed the Sectorond phase of its special water quality inspection campaign, testing over 2,000 water samples across two consecutive Sundays. This initiative aims to ensure that the water supply to citizens is clean and safe.

Under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, the Water Supply Department significantly ramped up its testing efforts during the rainy season. On August 4 and August 11, special campaigns were conducted, with the inspection team taking more than 1,000 samples each Sunday from various locations including residential areas, commercial complexes, educational institutions, and slum areas.

The testing focused on key water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), and residual chlorine. The E-coli test was also carried out in the central laboratory of the Municipal Corporation and the government laboratory at Kokan Bhawan. This comprehensive testing helps in identifying any contamination and ensures that water quality standards are met.

The campaign involved sampling from various sources including the main water channel, Bhokarpada Water Purification Centre, and Jalakumbh. Out of 1,021 samples tested last Sunday, 95% were found to be of good quality. Where necessary, chlorine levels were adjusted to improve water purity.

Additional City Engineer Arvind Shinde highlighted the effectiveness of the campaign, noting that the increased sample volume allows for more detailed monitoring and prompt improvements. This special initiative is part of the central government's 'Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao' campaign and reflects NMMC's commitment to providing clean and safe water.

Shinde also credited the success of the campaign to the dedicated efforts of Deputy Engineers Swapnil Desai, Shankar Jadhav, Vasant Padghan, and other staff members across various departments. The availability of NMMC’s laboratories at eight locations has facilitated the extensive testing process.

The campaign has been well-received by citizens, demonstrating NMMC’s proactive approach in maintaining high water quality standards and ensuring public health. The corporation extends its gratitude to the community for their cooperation in this crucial initiative.
