NMMC recognized as second best in state for TB control performance

The Health Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has been honoured as the second-best performer in the state under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program. This accolade was conferred following a meticulous evaluation conducted by the State Tuberculosis Control Office through the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program Group, YASHADA, Pune.

In the realm of the tuberculosis program, which encompasses all districts in the state of Maharashtra, divided into 80 divisions, NMMC showcased exemplary work during the year 2023. Recognizing their exceptional efforts, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Health Department secured the second position in the comprehensive assessment of the statewide TB control program. The Central TB Division in New Delhi also acknowledged Navi Mumbai's contributions.

Guided by Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, the health department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation implemented the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program across 24 Civilian Primary Health Centres, 3 Public Hospitals, and 2 Maternity and Child Hospitals under its jurisdiction. Furthermore, in 2023, extensive collaboration was established with all private laboratories, examination centres, hospitals, and X-ray facilities under the municipal corporation’s jurisdiction to achieve the objectives of the tuberculosis eradication program.

“The collaboration between government and private health services is crucial for tuberculosis elimination. All private sector hospitals, clinics, labs, etc., are mandated to report information about TB patients they are treating to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation”, said NMMC Chief
