NMMC issues notices to 454 property tax defaulters

As many as 454 property tax defaulters have been served notices by the NMMC to clear outstanding dues or face the prospect of their properties being auctioned.
“The properties of tax defaulters across eight wards of the corporation that have been seized will be auctioned starting April 2025 if outstanding dues are not cleared,” a NMMC official said.
The municipal corporation has urged property owners to pay their property tax dues to avoid losing their assets.
The NMMC has set a target raising Rs 900 crore from property tax for the fiscal year 2024-25.
To help city residents, NMMC directed tax collection centres at its headquarters and divisional offices to remain open on weekends from 10 AM to 5 PM.
To facilitate the convenient payment of property tax for citizens, NMMC property tax department has directed its property tax payment counters to remain open even on holidays.
Until March 30, 2025, property tax payments can be made at the NMMC headquarters and divisional offices daily between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Additionally, on March 31, 2025, the property tax payment counters will remain open until midnight.
NMMC has also made arrangements with Axis Bank and ICICI Bank to accommodate the growing number of taxpayers. The bank counters will remain open for extended hours during this period.
Dr Kailas Shinde, NMMC commissioner, has urged Navi Mumbai residents to ensure timely payment of their property tax dues.
NMMC had also introduced a waiver scheme on March 10 offering a 50 percent discount on the penalty amount for pending property tax dues. Citizens can avail of the waiver till March 31, 2025.
The scheme requires payments of the full property tax amount along with the reduced penalty amount. Partial payments will not qualify for the amnesty scheme.
NMMC officials said there has been an increased flow of citizens paying their property tax.
