Belapur: Navi Mumbai, consistently ranked among India’s top clean cities, is preparing for the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 survey with full-scale planning, aiming to retain its position in the prestigious ‘Super Swachh League’. The league, created under Swachh Survekshan 2024, recognises cities that have maintained top rankings in cleanliness over consecutive years.
Under the guidance of NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, a detailed review of the survey preparations was recently conducted by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar.
Officials, including City Engineer Shirish Aardwad, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Dr Ajay Gadade, Deputy Commissioner of Zone 1 Somnath Potre, and Additional City Engineer Arvind Shinde, participated in the meeting along with divisional officers and executive engineers.
The meeting focused on the Central Government’s Swachh Bharat Mission toolkit for the survey, which carries a total of 12,500 points. Direct cleanliness inspection and citizen feedback account for 10,500 points, including 1,500 points for on-ground cleanliness and 1,000 points for grievance redressal.
Key areas of focus include markets, busy zones, commercial areas, slums, public toilets, water bodies, drains, large waste-generating societies, 3R centres, parks, air pollution control, proper disposal of construction waste, and public beautification.
This year, special emphasis will be placed on promoting cleanliness habits in educational institutions and empowering environmental organisations through institutional standards. Awareness campaigns via the Swachhta App and citizen feedback platforms will further improve survey performance.
Under the ‘Clean City Pair’ concept, NMMC will also guide neighbouring municipalities and panchayats, including Lonar, Malkapur, Kage, Kannada, and Jintur, to enhance their cleanliness ratings, with site inspections and a two-day workshop planned.
NMMC has appealed to residents to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives to strengthen the city’s position in the Super Swachh League.
