Emphasizing the importance of fostering a culture of reading, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has persistently undertaken initiatives to promote and enhance the reading ecosystem within the city. A testament to this commitment is the development of a state-of-the-art library at the prestigious Vishnudas Bhave Natyagriha in Vashi, envisioned to be an exquisite hub for literary enthusiasts and knowledge seekers.

During the final phase of the library's construction, Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, accompanied by concerned officials, meticulously examined the project, offering valuable insights aimed at enriching the library's ambiance and ensuring an extensive collection of books to cater to the diverse reading preferences of the citizens.

Presently, the NMMC operates 20 libraries at various locations throughout the city, with special mention of the Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Library. Additionally, the 'Library in Slums' initiative has seen the establishment of 10 libraries, with three currently operational, to provide accessible reading resources to underprivileged sections. Furthermore, a cutting-edge 'Central Library' in Sanpada is in the pipeline, aiming to provide literature enthusiasts with a diverse range of literary works in multiple languages, mirroring the linguistic diversity of Navi Mumbai.

The concept of situating a library at the heart of the city's cultural centre, the Vishnudas Bhave Natyagriha in Vashi, materialized into the construction plan of an alluring and multi-purpose library within the premises. The design, crafted by renowned architects The Firm, was inspired by global library designs, ensuring a dynamic and engaging space in line with the cultural significance of the theatre.

Spanning across 177 sq.m., the theatre library is designed to accommodate over 3500 books, featuring captivating bookshelves, an inviting colour scheme, and suitable lighting to create an inviting reading environment. Adequate seating arrangements are provided, complemented by suitable lighting conducive to prolonged reading sessions. In recognition of contemporary preferences, the library is equipped with eight computers, catering to the inclination towards audio-visual reading, particularly among the youth.

Commissioner Narvekar, in his thorough evaluation, emphasized the importance of stocking the library with an extensive collection of literary works in Marathi and other languages, ensuring a diverse and inclusive literary selection for the readers. The event witnessed the presence of Additional Commissioner Vijayakumar Mhasal, City Engineer Dr. Sanjay Desai, and other officials, highlighting the collaborative efforts dedicated to the advancement of the reading culture in Navi Mumbai.
