New concrete road broken for drain work, residents of MIDC upset

Kalyan: Residents of Dombivli's MIDC residential area are expressing frustration after newly constructed concrete roads were demolished for drainage work, causing significant disruptions. The roads, built hastily without proper planning, are now being repeatedly torn up to accommodate sewer, water, and electricity pipelines.

“The roads were supposed to be a major improvement, but now they have been completely destroyed for work that could have been planned better,” said Gayatri Pawar, a resident.

Previously, only small sections of concrete roads were removed for utility work, but the latest project has resulted in a 40-foot-wide stretch of road being demolished, with a 10-foot gap created for the installation of a new drain.

“This work could have been delayed, especially with exams and festivals around the corner,” said Priyesh Gupta, another resident. The work, carried out near Ganesh Visarjan Lake Road in Milapnagar, close to Greens School and Shriram Vardayini Society, has led to the complete closure of the road for vehicles and pedestrians.

The road has been closed for the past four days, with no timeline for reopening. As a result, commuters, including school students and residents, are being forced to take lengthy detours. Some have opted to bypass the detour, risking accidents and injuries. “Students are especially impacted, and it’s getting dangerous,” said Shalini Mate, a parent.

Social activist Raju Nalawade has called on local representatives to intervene, urging “a more organised approach to infrastructure development” in the area.
