Navi Mumbai Police Naik Sharmila Naik secures spot in World Combat Championship

Police Naik Sharmila Sitmani Naik of the Navi Mumbai Police Force, has earned a prestigious position in the Indian team for the upcoming World Combat Championship scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia. Sharmila Naik will represent India in the discipline of Pankration, a blend of wrestling and judo, at the World Combat Tournament sanctioned by the International Wrestling Federation and approved by the International Olympic Committee. The tournament is slated to be held in Saudi Arabia from October 21 to 30.
Achieving this remarkable feat was no small feat, as securing a spot in the World Combat tournament necessitated obtaining the Olympic quota, which Sharmila Naik secured through her outstanding performance in Russia, earning the title of Best of Five.
Over the past 5-6 years, Sharmila has dedicated herself to the rigorous practice of mass wrestling and belt wrestling. Her dedication and perseverance were recently exemplified at the International Belt and Mass Wrestling Championship in Bapu, Azerbaijan, where she proudly represented Navi Mumbai and clinched two silver medals and one bronze medal, showcasing her prowess and skill on an international stage.
Sharmila's impressive track record speaks volumes of her commitment to the sport, having previously secured 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 13 bronze medals in various competitions. Despite her demanding responsibilities within the police force, Sharmila continues to allocate dedicated time for practice, underscoring her unwavering determination and passion for sports.

Traditional Wrestling Federation India President CA Tamboli and U.W.W. Belt Wrestling Asian Secretary Umar Muktar Tamboli has provided mentorship and support to Sharmila on her remarkable journey.
