As the Bengali community in Navi Mumbai embraced the dawn of a new year on April 14th, Poila Baisakh, they did so with renewed hope, determination, and dreams. Donning vibrant new attire, people of all ages embarked on a tradition-rich journey, starting with a visit to nearby Kali temples. Here, amidst the sanctity of prayer and devotion, they sought the blessings of Goddess Kali for a prosperous year ahead.

The Navi Mumbai Bengali Association spared no effort in ensuring a memorable celebration for all. The temple premises shimmered with splendid decorations, adorned with garlands and vibrant floral arrangements. The focal point of reverence, Maa Bhuvanmohini, exuded grace in her attire of dark Red Banarasi saree, bedecked with gold ornaments and a majestic Mukut (headgear), accentuated by a garland of lotus flowers.

Under the meticulous organization of Somnath Chatterjee, Secretary of the Navi Mumbai Bengali Association, the New Year puja proceeded smoothly, conducted by priests Nirupam and Sandipan Mukherjee. An elaborate eight-course bhog thali was prepared and offered to Goddess Kali, symbolizing gratitude and devotion.

As evening descended, the association complex came alive with the vibrant hues of cultural festivities. A diverse crowd gathered to revel in the enchanting performances of 'Barso Baran,' a cultural evening that showcased the rich artistic heritage of Bengal. The mesmerizing dance recital titled 'Oi Mousumi Mon,' along with musical renditions by playback sensation Anirudh Raana, left the audience spellbound.

Guided by the eloquence of Sumana Deb, the evening culminated in 'mistimukh,' sweetening the air with joy and camaraderie. The celebration of Poila Baisakh not only marked the beginning of a new year but also served as a testament to the enduring cultural spirit and unity of the Bengali community in Navi Mumbai.
