MP Rajan Vichare urges PM Modi to convene special Parliament session on Maratha reservation

top-news

Amidst the ongoing issue on Maratha community reservation in Maharashtra, Thane Lok Sabha MP Rajan Vichare, has taken a proactive step by addressing a letter to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The letter highlights the urgency of revisiting the matter of reservations for the Maratha community, as well as for the Dhangars, Adivasis, and other castes in the state.

The contents of the letter, which were sent via mail, emphasised the historical significance of the Maratha community's contributions to the state of Maharashtra. MP Vichare highlighted the illustrious legacy of the Marathas, tracing their roots back to the era of the revered Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who himself was a Maratha. Shivaji Maharaj, renowned for his role in uniting the diverse segments of society, including the eighteen Pagad castes and twelve Balutedars, played a vital role in establishing Hindu Swarajya and shaping the state of Maharashtra.

Despite the passage of over 75 years since India gained independence, the Maratha community continues to await their due share of reservation. MP Vichare stressed the pressing need for justice in this regard.

The letter references the commitment made by the government in 2014 to govern in the name of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, an assurance that resonates deeply with the sentiments of the people in Maharashtra. Over the years, the demand for Maratha community reservation has led to numerous rallies and protests, with some unfortunate incidents involving the loss of young lives. Shockingly, eight young individuals have taken their own lives as a form of protest for Maratha reservation, four of whom made this tragic decision within the last two months.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, he drew a parallel to a previous decision by Prime Minister Modi to call a special session of Parliament regarding women's reservation on the day of Ganapati.
