In a significant effort to address the growing concerns of Navi Mumbai's citizens, Member of Parliament (MP) Rajan Vichare organized a crucial meeting at the Municipal Commissioner's Hall. The gathering aimed to discuss the pressing issues of basic facilities faced by the city's residents and the ongoing development projects in Navi Mumbai.
The meeting was attended, by Navi Mumbai Mahila Sanghtika, Ranjana Shintre, Shiv Sena office bearers, and concerned citizens turning out in large numbers. Navi Mumbai has witnessed a rapid increase in its population due to improved connectivity, which has raised concerns about the availability of essential amenities such as parks, grounds, parking spaces, roads, and other facilities. To tackle these challenges, a development plan for the city until 2038 was discussed.
During the meeting, questions were raised regarding the efforts made by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to secure 600 new plots from CIDCO, considering the projected population growth. Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar informed the attendees that a joint meeting between CIDCO and the NMMC would be held, and the matter would be submitted to the state government for a decision within a year.
The meeting also highlighted the need to address aging drainage and water channels in certain villages and urban areas due to the surging population. MP Rajan Vichare urged the Municipal Corporation to take timely action in this regard and impose necessary restrictions. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to provide basic facilities such as water and drainage lines to colonies located beneath condominiums in Ghansoli and Koparkhairne areas.
MP Rajan Vichare raised a pertinent question about the use of municipal funds to provide taxpayers with essential infrastructure and requested that these funds be put to good use for this purpose. He also called for the undergrounding of overhead power lines, particularly in densely populated areas like Digha and Turbhe, where short-circuit accidents are frequent.
In addition, the issue of stall licenses for tanners in Navi Mumbai was discussed. MP Rajan Vichare suggested that these tanners be included in the licenses granted to disabled individuals by the Municipal Corporation.
The meeting also addressed local demands for playground equipment to be installed in Sector 10's D.V. Patil Master Ground in Sanpada. The Commissioner promised to reconsider the request and make a decision accordingly. Additionally, the meeting discussed the need to obtain permission from the railways to lay a water line from Morbe Dam to the Sanpada area, as railway tracks currently present an obstacle.
MP Rajan Vichare emphasized the importance of allocating municipal funds equitably across all wards and expressed concern about any bias in road concreting and repair work. He urged the Municipal Corporation to ensure fairness in all wards.
Lastly, the Commissioner acknowledged concerns regarding the Jewel of Navi Mumbai, where the development of a jogging track and a scenic area had been marred by unpleasant odours. Funds from the Amrut Yojana have been allocated to address this issue.
Efforts to alleviate citizens' difficulties in crossing the skywalk between Koparkhairane Sector 6 to Sector 8 Gulab Dairy were also discussed, with plans to appoint a consultant to find a suitable solution.
