MLCs meet education director, demand quick fixes for state educational woes

In a significant step towards resolving educational challenges in the state, Konkan division MLC Dnyaneshwar Mhatre and former MLC Shrikant Deshapande visited the office of the Director of Education in Pune. During their visit, they met with the Joint Director of Education and discussed pressing issues faced by teachers and non-teaching staff across Maharashtra.
During the discussions, several critical issues concerning teachers and non-teaching staff from across the state were addressed. Instructions were issued to prioritize: Resolving additional teacher adjustment issues. Providing necessary tools, including educational tablets (tabs), to teachers. Streamlining procedures for grant approvals and other administrative hurdles.
The meeting was attended by Mahendra Patil, Gajanan Patil, Pramod Vichwe, Hanumant Bhagat, and other teachers, who expressed their support and optimism regarding the steps being taken to address long-standing challenges in the education sector.
Key demands raised during the meeting included:
- Immediate Action on Pending School Announcements: MLAs urged the education department to publish the list of unannounced schools within the next 10 days.
- Approval for SET and Grant Proposals: They called for expediting the approval process for School Education and Training (SET) for the academic year 2024-25 and requested the immediate sanction of additional phase grants for schools that have addressed previous errors.
- Transition to Fully Funded Grants: Proposals for converting non-grant institutions to 100% grant-in-aid status were submitted to the state government for immediate consideration.
- Teacher Adjustments and Secondary Posts: Instructions were given to resolve the issues of surplus teacher adjustments and fill vacancies in higher secondary posts promptly.
