In the wake of a tragic accident that claimed the lives of Seema Narayan Mukadam and her daughter-in-law near the flyover on Belapur Fort-Uran Highway, MLA Manda Mhatre of Belapur Assembly Constituency has demanded for the construction of a subway. The incident occurred on December 17, 2023, around 8 pm, prompting local citizens to demand enhanced safety measures.
The flyover, located near the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation on Belapur Fort-Uran Highway, is a vital route for residents commuting to Uran and Vashi for work. Tragically, numerous lives have been lost while attempting to cross this busy highway. Seema Narayan Mukadam and her daughter-in-law from Belapur village became the latest victims, succumbing to a fatal accident.
The Highway, frequented by large cargo trucks and heavy vehicles at high speeds, poses a significant risk to citizens, workers, and school children crossing the road. The absence of a safe crossing has led many to take substantial risks, navigating their way through oncoming traffic. The proposed subway seeks to address these safety concerns, mitigating the risk of accidents and enhancing the overall convenience of road users.
Belapur Assembly Constituency MLA Manda Mhatre, recognizing the urgency of the matter, raised the issue during the ongoing winter session in Nagpur. Through a point of information, she urged the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to prioritize the construction of the subway. This initiative, if implemented, would not only save lives but also contribute to the efficient and secure transportation of school children, citizens, and municipal workers in the bustling region.
