Concerns have arisen over the blockage of creek water entering the wetlands near DPS School and NRI Housing Complex on Palm Beach Road. MLA Ganesh Naik has issued a stern warning, urging authorities to clear the water path immediately, lest they face consequences.

During an inspection tour of the wetlands, MLA Naik was joined by CIDCO Chief Engineer Byas, additional city engineer of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Arvind Shinde, and senior officials from the forest and police departments.

Navi Mumbai, renowned as the city of flamingos, is witnessing a decline in the number of these majestic birds due to selfish actions by some CIDCO officials. The creek water, essential for the wetlands near DPS School, has been obstructed by the construction of a jetty. This obstruction has not only dried up the wetlands but also endangered the lives of flamingos, with some succumbing to fatal landings in the absence of water.

Highlighting the ecological significance of the wetlands, MLA Naik emphasized that the area is part of the mangrove ecosystem, protected by orders from the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court. The deliberate blockage of water passage during the construction of the jetty is a blatant violation of these orders, prompting MLA Naik to demand accountability and legal action against the responsible officials.

Asserting his commitment to environmental conservation in Navi Mumbai, MLA Naik warned CIDCO officials to restore regular water flow from the creek to the wetlands within the next 15 days. Failure to do so will result in the removal of obstacles obstructing the water path.

While acknowledging the integrity of the majority of officers in the Municipal Corporation and CIDCO, MLA Naik condemned the actions of selfish individuals who may have sought personal gains by blocking the water flow. He reassured citizens that collective efforts will prevent any attempt to compromise the environmental integrity of Navi Mumbai.
