Mira Road: Kashigaon police have registered a case against a 60-year-old woman for renting her apartment to a foreign national in violation of mandatory legal protocols and failing to inform the police.

The accused, Jamila Pasha Khan, is the owner of flat in Ravi Naman Building No. 2, located near GCC Club in Mira Road. In January 2025, she reportedly rented out her flat to a foreign national. However, despite legal requirements mandating landlords to report such tenancy to the local police within 24 hours — both online and in person — no such intimation was made even till the end of May.

Police officials stated that the landlord’s failure to notify them constitutes a breach of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita (BNSS) as well as a violation of the prohibitory orders issued by the Commissioner of Police, Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar. The case has been registered under section 223 of the BNSS (Report to Police Order Violation).

According to the police, renting premises to foreign nationals without proper verification poses a potential threat to public safety and national security. Strict measures have been put in place to ensure landlords comply with registration norms for foreign tenants.

The investigation into the case is currently being carried out by police constable Prakash Mane of Kashigaon police station.
