Mira Road: A dispute over the presence of sacrificial goats in a high-end residential society stirred communal tensions in Mira Road ahead of the Islamic festival of Bakri Eid.

The incident occurred on June 3 in the North Garden City complex, located within the jurisdiction of Kashigaon police station. During a routine vehicle inspection at the society's main gate, a confrontation reportedly broke out between Mohsin Shaikh, a resident, and the security personnel stationed at the entrance. The altercation, captured in a video that has since gone viral, was allegedly sparked by Shaikh attempting to bring goats into the premises for the religious sacrifice associated with Bakri Eid which falls on June 7.

This is not the first time the issue has flared up in the same residential area. Last year, ahead of Bakri Eid, Shaikh had brought goats into the JP Infra society in Mira Road’s Vinay Nagar locality without prior intimation to the housing committee, leading to a heated dispute among residents and eventual summoning of the police.

The matter was resolved after Shaikh assured that the animals will be kept in the flat and will be slaughtered within the flat.

Meanwhile, Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police has taken proactive measures to prevent any disputes during the Eid celebrations. Notices have been issued to JP Infra and other residential societies, urging them to maintain communal harmony and follow guidelines during the festive period.

“We have already conducted peace committee meetings with the societies involved and appealed to all residents to celebrate Bakri Eid with mutual respect and understanding,” said Prakash Gaikwad, DCP, Zone 1, MBVV.

“Our goal is to ensure that the festival is celebrated peacefully, without any disruption to social harmony. We are closely monitoring sensitive areas and are in constant communication with society management committees,” Gaikwad added.

Authorities have emphasized that all residents, regardless of religious background, must adhere to community guidelines and maintain decorum to ensure a safe and respectful celebration of the festival.
