Bhayandar: The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) successfully conducted a large-scale mock drill Operation Abhyas at the Balasaheb Thackeray Ground, Bhayandar East.

As part of the drill, four sirens were activated simultaneously across the ground, simulating an aerial or bomb attack scenario. Residents were immediately guided to secure locations, and the operation demonstrated systematic evacuation procedures.

The mock drill also included demonstrations by emergency response teams. Firefighting teams showcased techniques for evacuating individuals trapped in buildings, including the use of high-rise riders to rescue residents from tall structures. Simultaneously, search and rescue operations were carried out, providing first aid to the injured and rescuing trapped civilians.

Speaking about the initiative, Narendra Chavan, assistant commissioner of MBMC disaster management, stated, "This mock drill is a critical part of our preparedness strategy. It allows all stakeholders to understand their roles during an actual emergency scenario and ensures we can respond effectively."

Deputy commissioner of police Prakash Gaikwad emphasized the importance of coordination, saying, "This exercise has shown how multiple agencies can work together seamlessly to save lives. Our focus is always on quick and efficient response."

Dr. Anita Jawanjal, District Disaster Management Officer, Thane, highlighted the value of such drills, stating, "Preparedness is the key to minimizing casualties during disasters. These exercises help us identify gaps and improve our response mechanisms."

The operation involved multiple agencies, including the Civil Defense Unit, Revenue Department, Police Department, MBMC Fire Brigade, Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF), Home Guards, National Service Scheme (NSS), and the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Fourteen NCC cadets, 25 Disaster Mitras, over 100 police officers, and 15 TDRF personnel actively participated in the drill.
