Badlapur: In a significant boost to women’s safety, the “Damini Squad” was officially launched in Badlapur on March 13. Designed to provide rapid assistance to women and enhance police patrolling across the city, the specialised unit aims to curb crimes against women and respond promptly to distress calls. The squad’s formation fulfils a long-standing demand by residents, following persistent efforts by Priyanka Damle, Vice President of the Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council (KBMC).

To ensure swift mobility, two scooters were donated by the President of Parshuram Economic Development Corporation in memory of the late Ajitdada Pawar. These vehicles will enable the squad to navigate through different parts of the city efficiently and attend to complaints in real-time.

The initiative received guidance and support from Aditi Tatkare, Minister of Women and Child Development, and Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre. The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials and local leaders, including DCP Sachin Gore, ACP Shailesh Kale, City President Prabhakar Patil, and Priyanka Ashish Damle.

The establishment of the Damini Squad marks a decisive step towards the “Safe Badlapur” vision, reflecting the city’s commitment to women’s empowerment and protection. Officials emphasised that proactive patrolling, timely response, and community engagement will be central to the squad’s operations, making the city a safer space for women and strengthening public trust in law enforcement.
